ABOUT JACKS FLAT
Jacks Flat is a musical project spearheaded by Jack Turner. It started as a YouTube channel in 2012 to which Jack would upload random videos of his everyday life. It evolved into a musical project by 2018 with the release of his quickly-thrown-together debut album "Green Year". Turner would soon take this project more seriously with follow-up efforts "The White Era", "Rock Your World", "Sky", "Inhumanly Possible", "Ok Brain", and "JACK OUT THE BOX". Additionally, his eighth album, titled "Baseball", is currently set for release on April 18, 2025.
Turner describes JF as a "weird blend" of alt-rock, alt-pop, avant-pop, electropop, and hip-hop. His musical influences include 100 gecs, AJR, Bastille, Beastie Boys, Gorillaz, Kendrick Lamar, Magdalena Bay, My Chemical Romance, Tally Hall, Taylor Swift, The Beatles, Twenty One Pilots, Tyler, The Creator, Waterparks, and Will Wood.
Every single JF song to date has been entirely self-written, self-produced, and self-released. However, other people who have been involved behind the scenes with other things include Christopher Turner, Ian Seehorn, Tristan Kennedy, Noah J Galloway, Cal Tesh, Matthew Bukacek, and Gavin Rhome.
FUN FACTS:
The name "Jacks Flat" comes from an old term Jack's parents coined which was first his family's old WiFi name, then his Nintendo Wii's name, then the name of his mom's Google account, which he would use to create the JF YouTube channel, to which he would eventually upload his early music.
The apostrophe in "Jack's" is omitted because that's how it was (and still is) in the name of his mom's Google account when he first made the JF YouTube channel.
Jacks Flat has almost had its name changed several times, however Jack has never gone through with it.
When Jack was gearing up to put "Rock Your World" on streaming services (and to create the streaming profile for JF), he considered adding the apostrophe to "Jacks Flat" or changing the name of the project to "JUNCTION".
During the very early stages of production of "Sky", Jack considered changing the name of the project to simply "Jack Turner".
Jack estimates there is just as much unreleased JF music as there is released JF music.
The first technical Jacks Flat song is called "The Weekend Song", and it was Jack messing around with a GarageBand Live Loops grid.
The first JF song with lyrics is called "Alaska", a rap song that was made by Jack and one of his cousins on a cruise to Alaska.
There is another album Jack made before Green Year called "Heartache" that he no longer considers an official JF album.
Jack considered making a JF album in his Recording Arts class in between "JACK OUT THE BOX" and "Baseball" that likely would've been surprise-released in summer 2024, however ground was never broken on the production of this album.
Even if this album had been made, it still likely wouldn't have ever seen the light of day, as Jack's Recording Arts computer crashed one day, resulting in the loss of nearly all of his previous projects.
The JF YouTube channel was originally under another name (which Jack forgot), and was a Lego review channel, the videos of which are now likely all lost media.
